The adoption process for Retired Greyhound Athletes, Inc. is as follows:
Receive information to decide if a greyhound is the correct breed for you. Meet & Greets or other events are a great way to learn more about this wonderful breed. Check our Events Calendar for dates and times.
Please note we do not adopt to families with children under 7 years old.
If you are serious about adopting one of these athletes, we strongly recommend reading Adopting the Racing Greyhound by Cynthia Branigan and Retired Racing Greyhounds for Dummies by Lee Livingood. These books are available at Meet and Greets, at most libraries, pet stores, and via the internet.
Complete our application that ask questions about your lifestyle, veterinarian, and personal references. We will review the application and check your references. You can find our application at the top of this page.
When your application is approved, you may select a dog from those currently available, or wait until we have one that suits your lifestyle. If you have another dog, we will watch them interact with each other before completing the adoption.
Prior to placement, all greyhounds will be sterilized, have vaccinations up to date, checked for heartworms, parasites, ehrlichia and lyme disease, and have had their teeth professionally cleaned by a veterinarian before being placed.
